Getting Grok Bot
A calm, plain-words guide for people who have never used an AI helper before.
Nervous about AI? That's normal.
Lots of people feel uneasy about AI. That's a sensible feeling, and it is fine to go slowly.
Grok Bot is a helper app. You type a question, or speak it, and it answers in plain words. Think of it like asking a well-read friend who is good at finding things on the internet.
- You are in charge. It works on what you ask it to do.
- On this website, you only need to ask it questions. You do not have to connect your email or anything else.
- You see emails before they go out. If it writes an email for you, it shows you a draft first. You choose Send or Discard.
- You can stop anytime. Just tell it to stop, or stop using it. You can also delete your account in the app's Settings.
💬 Have a worry we haven't covered? Ask a question or share a worry. No question is silly.
How AI works, in plain words
- It has learned from a huge amount of writing. That is how it can understand a question asked in everyday words and write back in plain English.
- It can look things up. Grok Bot can search the internet for current information, like an official office's phone number or a town's posted budget.
- It is not a person. It doesn't think or feel the way people do. It is a tool, like a very capable calculator for words.
- It can sound sure and still be wrong. For anything important, check the original source or ask a real person at the office.
- It only sees what you give it. It works with what you type or choose to share. Only share what you're comfortable with, and never share the private numbers in our safety list.
Everyday ways Grok Bot can help
Many people start with small, everyday jobs like these:
- Explain a confusing letter or bill in plain words. Remove your account numbers first.
- Tell you whether an email or text looks like spam or a scam, and what to do about it. (See the example below.)
- Find a phone number or the right office to call, from the official website.
- Help you write a letter or email, so it says what you mean, politely.
- Show you how to sign up for things, like the free National Do Not Call Registry.
- Answer everyday questions, the kind you might ask a knowledgeable friend.
- Remind you about bills and appointments, if you choose to connect your calendar.
- Tidy up a cluttered email inbox, if you choose to connect your email.
Calendar and email help only work if you connect those accounts inside the Grok Bot app. Nothing is connected unless you choose to do it, and you don't need to connect anything to use this website.
Health or legal questions? It can explain things, but always check with your doctor, pharmacist, or lawyer.
What Grok Bot did for me: a founder's story
I'm a retiree, and I was nervous about AI too. So I'd like to tell you, in plain words, how Grok Bot has helped me. This is just my own experience.
Over a few days, with my permission, it looked through my email and found dozens of old online accounts I had forgotten about: hotel and airline rewards, old shopping sites, apps, and even people-search websites. Many still had my address and phone number. Some had a saved card.
- It asked me before closing anything. First it checked for points or memberships worth keeping. For example, it made sure closing an old Paramount+ account wouldn't stop the one I watch through Amazon Prime, and that closing my Costco website login wouldn't touch my membership.
- It wrote polite emails asking each company to delete my information. I read every one and pressed Send myself. It never sent anything without me.
- It filled out privacy forms and turned off my bank's marketing and data-sharing.
- It found an old Instagram account in my name that I didn't know existed, and helped me get it deleted.
- It noticed something odd: an old vacation rental listing of mine had a host name and title I didn't recognize. It helped me report it.
- It never asked me to type a password or code into the chat. Private details went through secure forms.
- It keeps an eye on my inbox for the companies' replies, and tells me only when I need to do something.
I stayed in charge the whole time. It explained each step, and nothing happened until I said yes. Some companies still have to reply, so I can't promise how every request will turn out. But I know where my information was, I've asked to have it removed, and I feel much calmer.
To do this, I chose to connect my email inside the Grok Bot app. You don't need to connect anything to use this website.
If you'd like to begin with something smaller, the three easy steps on Start small are a gentle place to start.
Still feeling unsure? I'd be glad to hear from you: ask a question or share a worry.

What Grok Bot can help you with here
- Find and explain public records, like town budgets, meeting minutes, and grants.
- Explain confusing words in plain English. (Our Word list helps too.)
- Check whether a business, charity, or contractor is real, using official websites.
- Look at a suspicious text or email, after you remove your personal details from it.
- Help you write a polite question or a public records letter.
- Find the right office to report to, if something still doesn't add up.
Example: a scam text, step by step
Before: you get a text
Example (made up): "Your Medicare card is expiring. Call 1-800-555-0100 now to avoid losing benefits."
It sounds official, and it makes you worry. That is exactly what scammers want.
What you ask Grok Bot
Remove your name and any personal details from the message first. Then copy this question and paste the message where it says:
I got this text. Is it a scam? What should I do? Here it is: [paste the message, with your personal details removed]
On an iPad or phone, you can also press and hold the words, then tap Copy.
After: how Grok Bot can help you
Grok Bot can help you by:
- Pointing out the warning signs: it rushes you ("now"), it threatens you ("losing benefits"), and it asks you to call a number it gave you.
- Suggesting you don't reply, call, or click.
- Reminding you to check with the real agency using a number from your own card or from the official website, not the number in the message.
- Showing you how to report it: forward the text to 7726 (SPAM), then delete it, and report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
Another example: "Grandma, I'm in trouble"
Example (made up): a call or email from "your grandson" who says he is in trouble, needs money fast, and begs you not to tell anyone.
Grok Bot can help you see the warning signs: someone contacting you first, rushing you, and asking for money, often by gift card or wire transfer. It can remind you to hang up and call your grandchild, or another family member, on a number you already know.

How to get Grok Bot
What it costs
The Grok Bot app is free to download, but to use it you need a paid plan. Grok Bot is included in The X Subscription on the Premium, Super, or Ultra plans. It is not included in the Free or Plus plans.
Premium is the lowest plan that includes it. In October 2026 its list price was $30 a month, or $300 a year, before tax. Prices can change, so always check the price on the screen before you agree to pay. (Sources: x.ai pricing, X Subscription pricing help)
Each plan includes a weekly amount of use that refreshes every week. If you use it a lot and run out, you can wait for the next week. Extra use costs extra, and only if you choose to buy it. (Grok Bot plans help page)
Already pay for X? Older X plans are not all the same as the new Premium plan. Check your subscription settings on X to see which plan you have.
On an iPad or iPhone
1Check your device
Grok Bot needs an iPhone with iOS 18 or later, or an iPad with iPadOS 18 or later. To check, open Settings, tap General, then About.
2Get the real app from the App Store
Open the App Store and search for Grok Bot. The real app lists the seller as X Corp. Or open the official page: Grok Bot on the App Store.
Tap Get. Downloading the app is free.
3Open the app and sign up
Open Grok Bot and tap Log In or Sign Up. It opens a sign-in page. Follow the steps there, then come back to the app. (Grok Bot for mobile help)
4Choose a plan, or a free trial if one is offered
The app will show you if you need a plan. Choose Premium or higher to use Grok Bot. Read the price on the screen before you tap to pay.
Some new accounts are offered a short free trial with a small amount of use. If the app offers it, it shows you. A Grok Bot trial does not turn into a paid plan by itself. But a free trial started through the App Store is different: Apple charges you when it ends unless you cancel first. To cancel, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. (Grok Bot plans help page)
5Ask your first question
Type in the message box, or tap the microphone to speak. Then send it. Try one of the easy questions below.
It's fine to ask a friend or family member to sit with you the first time.
Staying safe with AI
- Never type your Social Security number, Medicare number, bank or card numbers, or passwords into Grok Bot or any chat.
- You don't have to give your real name in your questions. "A retiree in [your town]" is enough.
- Look up businesses, charities, and public programs, not private people. Do not ask Grok Bot for anyone's home address, phone number, family, health, or money details.
- Scammers sometimes pretend to be AI helpers or tech support. If anyone calls, texts, or emails asking for money, gift cards, or your details "for your AI account," don't answer them. Hang up or delete it. To check your account, open the app yourself.
- Get the app only from the official App Store, and pay only inside the official app or on the official website, x.ai. The company says it does not use resellers, so never buy it from a "discount" offer.
- Silver Watchdogs will never contact you asking for money or personal details, and we do not sell Grok Bot.
